The fishing lure you put on your rod is very significant to your fishing success.  Today, bass fishing lures are available in a variety of color and designs – which makes buying for that perfect lure more difficult – you can’t buy every design you come across with and even if you can afford all, you can’t take them all out to the lake with you.  So here are simple guidelines to keep in mind.

What season are you going fishing?

During spring, bass are beginning to spawn and therefore are very defensive so protect their environment. They are likely to react more to lures which appear to be a threat to their beds. Lizards are excellent choice when fishing in spring.

Color of your lure

The variety of colors available is unbelievable. However, you only need black, green, blue and red – these colors are the most desirable for fishing bass. Blue and black jigs are the most popularly used lures.

Is there a lure that is better than others?

No, there is none.  However, there are some lures that have been tried and were found to offer the best chances for catching bass. But if you can afford only a few lures, your tackle box must contain the following:

(1) At least 1 chartreuse and white spinner bait for flipping alongside the logs as well as other structures during early till mid morning.
(2) A container of plastic worms that are 6 inches in length in green or black pumpkin.
(3) A blue and black in ½ oz and ¾ oz.

It is easy to catch a bass, if you can find them. That is why along with the right lure that will work on that specific lake and time, you need to study where and when bass can be found so you can concentrate more on catching them rather than looking for them.
