If you want to catch those large bass, then bass fishing jigs are your best bet for bass lures. Bass fishing Jigs may be used all year-round and can be altered to fit the requirements of the bass which are, at times, very hard to pin down.

The most important thing to remember when fishing for bass is to pay close attention to things that are happening as well as not happening in their environment and try to closely imitate it.  Fishing with jigs means to carefully look at different variables so you can pick out the jig that will work best in a particular situation.

The head shape

There are a number of shapes that are available - football jigs, pointed-nose head jigs and many others. Many argue as to what head shape is best, but it just a matter of personal choice. Most prefer a football-shaped head.  This style usually sits up on the bottom nicely emphasizing the trailer that seems to defend itself. This usually evokes a strike from the bass.

Weed guard

Bass fishing jigs come with and without a weed guard. But the most preferred by anglers are jigs with a weed guard. Trim the weed guard back a bit to make certain that when the bass bites it down, it will hook itself properly on the jig.

Trailer

The main purpose of the trailer is to present your jig with more life and body as bass prefer to attack unwary prey. Also, the trailer will give the jig the appearance of a crawfish, which id the favorite food of the bass.

Fishing with jigs will take a lot of practice and patience.  Weather patterns and bodies of water will each have their own requirements as well as every angler has his own way of fishing and a favorite bait.
